I’ve never had much of a sweet tooth, but give me something that has that tangy vinegar taste to it and I’m hooked. Which is why I shouldn’t be surprised that I’m absolutely obsessed with these easy pickled red onions.

You’ll find that a lot of people recommend them as a topping for tacos or mexican food but I’ve found that they taste AMAZING with your favorite BBQ meats. The tangy flavor really compliments hamburgers, steaks, and pulled pork. Bring them with you to your next BBQ and they’ll quickly become everyones new favorite condiment.

How To Make Easy Pickled Red Onions In Minutes

In a bowl mix apple cider vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Set the bowl aside and slice the red onions. You can use either a sharp knife or a mandoline. To guarantee I end up with uniformed sized slices I use a Mandoline Slicer.

When it comes to thickness play around with it and see what works best for you. If I’m using them in tacos I like them sliced very thin. But If I’m using them on hamburger I slice them a little thicker. It’s really just personal preference.

Once the onions are cut put them to a 16 oz Mason Jar, or similar sized glass jar. Then pour in the apple cider vinegar mix. Put the lid on tightly and give it a quick shake to make sure everything is combined.

Let it sit at room tempter for about an hour and you’re ready to enjoy! They should stay good in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, although they probably won’t last that long.

Easy Pickled Red Onions

Ready in just 5 minutes these pickled red onions will quickly become your favorite condiment

Prep Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Large Red Onion
  • 1 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Tbs Sugar
  • 3 Tbsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Combine apple cider vinegar, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Mix well until the salt and sugar are dissolved

  2. Slice large red onion and put in mason jar or similar glass jar

  3. Pour apple cider vinegar mixture into mason jar

  4. Tightly close lid and shake to combine

  5. Let set at room tempture for 1 hour

  6. Enjoy!
