As a mother to two small boys, I am also always looking for ways to teach them the joy of sharing and doing things for others. During Halloween, it’s easy for children to focus only on themselves and what they are going to get from others. A BOO Basket is a super cute and easy way to teach kids that it’s as much fun to give treats as it is to get them!
What exactly is a BOO Basket
A BOO Basket is a basket, container, or box that contains Halloween goodies, a We’ve been BOOed door sign, and the BOO Basket directions.
Your BOO Basket can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. It can be a trick or treat bucket, a wicker basket, or a small decorated cardboard box. You can fill your BOO Basket with candy, coloring books, homemade treats, or any other fun or spooky Halloween goodies you have around the house.
I was able to create two baskets for around $12 by shopping at Micheals. Nothing cost me more than $1.50 because all their Halloween items were on sale for 40% off!! You can also find inexpensive baskets and goodies at Walmart and Hobby Lobby.
BOO Basket Directions
- Place the “We’ve Been BOOed ” sign on your door to let your neighbors know you’ve been BOOed.
- Within 48 hours, create a BOO basket full of Halloween goodies for at least 1 neighbor.
- Use the FREE printable door sign and instructions (below) or create your own spooky signs.
- Leave your BOO basket on a neighbors doorstep and slip quietly away into the spooky night.
This was our first year creating BOO Baskets. But its something that we will definitely be doing for years to come. Not only was creating the baskets was a fun family activity. We also had a blast leaving them on our neighbor’s doorsteps. It was kind of like playing ding dong ditch as a kid. Except for this time when your neighbors open their door, they find a cute little BOO Basket!!
Whether you’ve lived in your neighborhood for years or just a few weeks. BOO Baskets are also a great way to foster a sense of community spirit and unity. Which is something we could use more of in this world right now.
Have you created a BOO Basket?? I would love to hear what you’ve included and if it spread across your neighborhood!
