Hello there and Welcome!
Thank you so much for stopping by Mountain Peak Homestead!
I’m Laura, and I’m a country girl who’s stuck in the middle of the suburbs. One day my dream is to have a little homestead far outside of town. But for now, I’m doing my best to live that dream on my tiny suburban “homestead” in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains.

Today it seems like so many of us want to live a slower-paced, more self-sufficient, and old-fashioned lifestyle. But due to jobs and other various reasons, we have to live in suburbs or cities.
Luckily, there are lots of things you can start doing today, right where you are to begin to bring that dream alive!
This is the place for you if:
- You dream of living the homesteading life but are stuck in the middle of the suburbs.
- You want to learn how to get your family prepared for emergencies while staying within a budget.
- You want to live a more self-sufficient lifestyle but don’t know where to start.
- You are interested in incorporating more natural and less processed food and beauty products into your life without breaking the bank.
About Me
When I was a kid my parents moved from a town right outside of New York City to a small rural town in northern Vermont. I was blessed to spend most of my childhood in one of the most beautiful places in the country. Growing up in a place that values handmade over store-bought and fresh locally grown food over grocery stores really played a part in developing who I am. Then throw in the fiercely independent spirit and do it yourself attitude typical of New Englanders and it pretty much sums my personality up perfectly.
At 17 I joined the Army and spent a little over 10 years traveling the world, living in Italy, and deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan. Although I wouldn’t trade those experiences for the world, I found myself longing to finally settle down in one place and live a slower-paced life. After the birth of my second son, I decided to leave the military and focus on my family. With my husband still in the Army, I spent another 2 years dealing with moves, training, and deployments, although this time I was on the other side of it as an Army Wife.
In 2019 the Army moved us to Colorado and we instantly fell in love with the state. Although Vermont will always be my number one, Colorado is very a close second. We decided that it was time to finally settle down in one place and start to grow our roots here.
One day we plan on moving further out into the country where we can have a house with enough acres so I can live more of the rural life I love. But for now, we’re living in our little “homestead” in the suburbs while trying to cultivate that self-sufficient and prepared lifestyle we love.
